RoHS Compliancy

RoHS Compliancy
As a result of the current RoHS Regulations restricting the release of certain "heavy" metals, such as chromium into the environment, the steel Ensats that we sell with a zinc plated & yellow passivation finish are no longer acceptable to certain customers. This is because the yellow passivation contains chromium in a hexavalent (Cr6) form which is no longer acceptable in Electrical and Electronic Equipment under these regulations with effect from 01-07-06, or for use in motor vehicles under the EC Directive ELV 2003 (End of Vehicle Life) from 01-07-07. Obviously certain customers, who are using Ensats in products or equipment for re-sale, are already aware of these regulations, and they must now use inserts that are compliant with the regulations. Where customers are using Ensats for their own use, i.e. constructing/repairing their own equipment it will not be important to them, but we have a duty to advise them that the zinc & yellow finish (-16) is not RoHS compliant. The replacement finish is zinc & clear passivation which contains trivalent chrome (Cr3), which is a less aggressive element to the environment and will now be identified by the suffix -110 on all steel Ensat products.
