Spooner Industries, the leading supplier of industrial process equipment, is hoping to leave the recession behind following a record number of orders during the start of 2010. Workers at Spooner, based in Ilkley West Yorkshire, are enjoying the results from what has been the highest ever volume of orders received in a two month period. The start of 2010 has seen enquiries coming from all over the world and orders have been won across Asia, North America and Europe. Steve Newell, Director at Spooner said, “Our customers are looking to come out of the recession by making investments in developing new products and processes. We have also seen a rise in demand for our technical service engineers to replace, upgrade and modify existing equipment to provide customers with energy efficient processes that achieve maximum performance.” UK figures show that general manufacturing output has risen by 0.2% in both April and May this year and Spooner has seen a dramatic growth in its year on year sales. The company has invested heavily in up-grading its state-of-the-art engineering facilities and development tools. Over recent years the development programmes have centred on the use of 3D CAD facilities. The fully integrated new business system uses parametric tools within a model and creates detailed drawings and bill of materials in around 10% of the time that it would take a traditional 2D CAD system. Spooner has consistently been able to demonstrate its competitiveness, due in part to the considerable cost reductions brought about by this system. Shorter lead times are now possible to reduce overall project time scales.
