UPS Battery Monitoring Device (BHC)
19-03-2008
The BHC (Battery Health Check) is a device developed entirely by Socomec Sicon UPS for the monitoring and preventive diagnosis of batteries.
BHC reads the current for each battery string and the voltage for each single monoblock. The combined voltage and current readings are a check-up of important parameters such as the impedance of each monoblock which, together with temperature measurements and charging and discharging statistics, allow us to check on the battery's actual operating state. In this way, any defective monoblocks are reported before the failure of one battery can have any knock-on repercussions on the whole string, resulting in a sudden lack of service of the installation and power supply to the load is blocked.
If the problem persists, it is also signalled by a specific alarm which localizes the failure (string and monoblock) thereby allowing preventive maintenance action to be taken.
The BHC actively communicates with compatible Socomec UPS equipment items displaying on mimic panel battery information such as states, alarms, measurements of monoblocks and statistics for the last discharges occurring.
Finally, BHC interacts with the back-up system by automatically regulating charge of the batteries in the event of a failure, for instance, if too high a voltage is recorded on one monoblock, the battery-charger reacts by lowering the total recharge voltage.
