SGS United Kingdom Ltd gains UKAS accreditation to ISO 9001:2015
SGS United Kingdom Ltd is one of the first organisations in the UK to become accredited (by UKAS) to provide certification to ISO 9001:2015 – the new version of the Quality Management Systems Standard which was published on 23 September 2015. ISO 9001:2015 is the most internationally recognised standard for quality management systems representing almost 72% of the total number of certificates issued globally. The standard helps organisations achieve, benchmark and monitor high quality performance across all business operations. It provides a framework to ensure applicable statutory and regulatory requirements are consistently met, whilst keeping up to date with market developments and enhancing customer satisfaction. Paul Stock, ISO 9001 Product Manager for the UK, believes that the standard is “a great management tool to help operate business, ensuring that any product or service is consistent. It’s a great way to show people that you take the quality of your business seriously and that you are committed to achieving high levels of sustainable development and continual improvement.” ISO 9001:2015 has been revised to incorporate a new high level structure (HLS) – the Annex SL framework which contains common requirements, definitions, terms and clauses improving the alignment of all future and revised management system standards (MSS) to allow easier integration of standards. ISO 9001:2015 improves business sustainability and performance by focusing on organisational context, risk based thinking and leadership responsibility. Mr Stock believes that it is in the best interest of companies to make their transition to ISO 9001:2015 early: “Competitive advantage can come from early adoption of the management processes of ISO 9001:2015 which demonstrate the depth of internal examinations of your business. With so many competitors in most business sectors you need something that makes you stand out from the crowd. In many ways it is not always the products and services that confirm your standards, but often the regulatory structure that proves the strength and quality of your business.” Organisations that are already certified to ISO 9001:2008 will have three years – until September 2018 – in which to transfer to the new version of the standard. SGS experts can carry out a gap analysis against the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 to make the transition smooth and transparent.
