What is The British Plastics Federation?

The British Plastics Federation (BPF) are the UK’s leading association within the plastic industry. Founded in 1933, the trade association is the most powerful organisation in the world of plastic, accompanying over 400 businesses and manufacturers in this sector. They also consist of 1200 affiliated members. Whilst they support plastic producers and companies, they also support the environmental movement of making plastic usage greener and more sustainable. What Do They Do? Their key morals are to educate and promote a successful plastics industry for its members, and the UK as a whole, through various initiatives. Why Are They Important? Holding the largest voice in the UK for the plastic industry, the BPF campaign and strive to improve recycling and using plastic with the belief that the enemy is not plastic, it’s plastic waste. It has proved an important factor to their association that they keep up to date with the times and work to manage crises like climate change and plastic pollution in the ocean, whilst supporting the distribution of recyclable plastic. The organisation understands the importance of plastic within everyday life and how it has managed to revolutionise various technologies, so they aim to establish much more sustainable alternatives to manage the products we are using every day. The projects and researched carried out by the BPF are usually sourced by government funding. The plastics industry is a leading sector in the UK’s economic strength. With an annual turnover of over £23 billion and 182,000 employees it is important to protect this industry. It is also one of the country’s top 10 exports so the BPF support the continuation of the sector whilst researching how it can be improved for a sustainable future.
