Introducing an energy saving step into the space age
Many Companies and indeed homeowners are now looking to optimise the space in existing properties, and often save energy and add value, by moving upwards rather than moving out. For example, homeowners are making better use of their lofts for storage. Also, many businesses are increasing storage space through the use of mezzanine floors and are utilising the space afforded by flat roofs to locate such things as plant, motor and boiler rooms. An important element of this move upwards is access and the global market leader in this area is UK-based leading aluminium and wooden loft ladder specialist Premier Loft Ladders. By working closely with architects and the construction industry, Premier is continually developing new products and adding innovative features to its range in order to meet and exceed every new requirement, across a host of industrial and domestic applications, particularly those related to energy efficiency. The latest example of this is the introduction of a double seal and additional insulation energy saving option to the weatherproof roof hatch of one of its most popular aluminium ladders, the Supreme. 2 This concertina style strong, ready to fit stairway, suitable for a maximum floor to ceiling height of 4600mm, is manufactured in Germany at the factory where the concept of the concertina (formerly known as the zig zag) retractable ladder originated. A counter balance sprung aluminium alloy stairway, the Supreme is made from high strength die-cast aluminium alloy components contained within and attached to a laminated wood trapdoor and lining. The Supreme with insulated roof hatch Tim Wakeley of Premier Loft Ladders explains: The Supreme would normally be supplied with a single seal at the top of the lining for when the roof hatch closes but now we can offer the unit with a double seal to the roof hatch to improve energy saving. The standard single seal under the top cover would allow up to 35mm of insulation around the outside of the hatchbox. The special double seal can allow anything between 80mm to 120mm.” The new double seal is just one of a choice of several options and accessories offered with the Supreme. These include electrical operation, 30 or 90 minute fire resistant casings, vertical access, suspended ceiling application, top operating mechanism, insulated trapdoor, telescopic handrail and upper level guardrail. Premier Loft Ladders’ stairways have been installed at many high profile private and public sector projects and buildings, including the Malmo City Tunnel, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Temple Bar, the Reform Club in Pall Mall, and many hospitals, prisons, universities and schools. The company offers a free service to help architects, specifiers and contractors choose the right ladder for their specific needs. All they need to know is: · The floor to underside of ceiling height (or in the case of a suspended ceiling, the floor to underside of the suspended ceiling together with the suspended ceiling to underside of the ‘fixed ceiling’ height) · The hatch opening length and width · The distance from the underside of the ceiling through to the floor level in the loft or wherever · All other relevant dimensions All ladders in the range are manufactured to EN 14975 (DN 4570) standards and prices are extremely competitive. In fact, Premier Loft Ladders will match the price of any like for like product found at a lower price elsewhere!
