NG Restoration of Motive Power (ROMP)
The National Grid Restoration of Motive Power (ROMP) course is a specialist 1/2 day Computer Based Training (CBT) programme designed for personnel who are required to safely restore low-voltage (LV) motive power supplies within substations and operational sites following isolation. The course provides the essential knowledge and practical understanding needed to carry out ROMP activities in accordance with National Grid Safety Rules and procedures. This course is intended for individuals who need to reinstate auxiliary supplies such as lighting, heating, battery chargers, and operational equipment, ensuring that systems are safely returned to service without introducing risk to personnel or plant. The training provides a comprehensive understanding of responsibilities under National Grid Safety Rules and relevant National Safety Instructions. It covers hazard identification, safe systems of work, and the control measures required when working with LV systems in high-voltage environments. Delegates will also learn the correct use and control of safety documentation, isolation procedures, and the step-by-step process for safely restoring motive power supplies. By the end of the course, delegates will be equipped to carry out ROMP activities safely and competently, ensuring that auxiliary systems are restored in a controlled manner while maintaining full compliance with authorised procedures and safety requirements. The National Grid Authorisation Training can only be booked either directly with National Grid or through the live NG Booking Portal via an approved provider, such as ourselves.
