This level of authorisation is restricted to Limited Access Certificate (LAC) only, meaning delegates are trained to work safely near overhead lines without undertaking earthing duties or other higher-risk tasks. to high-voltage substations. It focuses on promoting safety, increasing hazard awareness, and ensuring compliance with National Grid rules and procedures. The course provides a clear understanding of responsibilities under National Grid Safety Rules, with particular emphasis on NSI 4 “Work on or Near High Voltage Overhead Lines.” It covers hazard identification, safe systems of work, and the controls required when operating near OHL infrastructure. Delegates also learn about the use of safety documentation, site controls, and appropriate working methods for third-party or civil works activities, while remaining within the boundaries of LAC-only authorisation and excluding activities such as the application of drain earths that require higher levels of competence.
