Plasfab Limited has completed a bespoke acrylic table for a luxury home, designed to be submerged in a swimming pool and create the visual effect of walking on water.
The project, shared in the company’s latest LinkedIn update, involved a table fabricated from 30 mm thick acrylic. Measuring more than 2.5 metres in length, the finished piece used over 250 kg of solid acrylic.
Turning an unusual brief into a finished piece
The client wanted a table that would be nearly invisible when submerged, allowing someone walking across it to appear to move across the surface of the pool. The brief combined a striking visual ambition with the practical challenge of fabricating a substantial acrylic structure.
Plasfab used precision CNC machining as part of the manufacturing process, with particular attention to clarity, accuracy, balance and polishing. The company reports that the project was delivered within a tight deadline without compromising the quality of the finished work.
Large-scale bespoke acrylic fabrication
The table illustrates how custom plastic fabrication can support distinctive furniture and architectural projects. Its scale and material thickness made it a substantial fabrication, while the intended submerged appearance placed the focus firmly on the visual finish.
Plasfab credited Perspex Distribution Ltd in its project update. The company’s accompanying video shows the acrylic piece and provides a closer look at the fabrication.
