How to apply Firestone bonding adhesive Correct preparation of the roof surface and application of the adhesive is important to ensure the best performance from your project over the duration of its long-expected lifespan. Preparation Bonding surfaces must be clean, dry, smooth, free of sharp edges, loose and foreign materials. Brush down the area first and use a suitable cleaning medium to remove oil, grease stains and any other contaminants.   Lay the membrane out over the working area and leave to rest for 30 minutes. Application Stir the adhesive thoroughly before use. Use only when temperatures will not fall below freezing at any time during a 24-hour period following the application of the EPDM.   Work in manageable sections and apply Firestone bonding adhesive over the substrate and apply to the underside of the membrane with a solvent resistant roller. Take care to coat the substrate and membrane evenly to avoid globs and puddles of adhesive.   Use a 4” mini roller for detailed application and a 9” solvent resistant roller for the main area application. Permaroof stock a range of suitable rollers, especially selected for application of our roofing adhesives range.   Wait for the surface to become tacky to the touch, then carefully and evenly roll the membrane in place over the substrate. To ensure proper adhesion, compress the bonded portion of the sheet to the substrate with a wide broom to remove any bubbles or small creases.   Note that the quantity and type you need will vary according to your project dimensions and requirements.
