Other forms of primary treatment include dissolved air flotation and clarification which when combined with chemical coagulation and flocculation can result in significant reductions in solids and organic loads. Primary treatment in some cases can be a sole method of treatment prior to discharge to sewer. In other industrial wastewater applications, primary treatment is necessary to reduce the loading on secondary biological treatment processes.
