Gas and Fire Alarm Remote Monitoring
When a customer required a system to monitor fire and gas alarm detection points on a very large petrochemical plant, MAXIFLEX was chosen because the detection points were remotely distributed all over the plant. Requiring over 70km of Conet twisted pair network to reticulate and connect all the detectors to the centralized fire station, Conet Network Interface modules (NIM's) allowed engineers to overcome the 10km network limitation for a Single Conet Bus type Network. Using NIM's, a star type Conet typology was implemented allowing multiple Conet networks to co-exist. Using a system of global addressing, the supervisory system had transparent access to all Network nodes as if it were one contiguous network, but with significantly increased system reliability and installation flexibility.Features of this application:19 network segments; 70km of network cabling. But no new cables needed to be laid, as the existing private telephone cables were employed saving hundreds of thousands of dollars. Intelligent front end monitoring provided discrepancy inputs. Network health monitoring required was inherent in the CONET networking scheme.
