Why VEL Fit Chose the Nifty 210
VEL Fit has revolutionised the way it installs and maintains Velux windows by investing in a Nifty 210 platform, cutting down on time and costs while enabling safe, efficient access to even the trickiest windows.
When traditional scaffolding proved inefficient for fast-paced but high-up jobs, VEL Fit—a leading UK Velux window contractor—sought a smarter alternative. The solution came in the form of a Niftylift platform, offering a better way to reach over 700 rooftops as part of a project to replace motors in Velux flat-roof windows. Each job took only about 30 minutes at height, but erecting and dismantling scaffolding would have added two full days and up to £5,000 per site.
“Scaffolding just wasn’t viable for what we needed,” explained Steve Wrieden, Director at VEL Fit. “We initially trialled the Nifty 170, but needed greater outreach. That led us to the Nifty 210—the largest trailer-mount in Niftylift’s range.”
Why the Nifty 210 Was the Perfect Fit
With a working height of 21 metres and an outreach of 12 metres, the Nifty 210 delivered exactly what VEL Fit required: efficient, reliable access without compromise.
“The 12-metre outreach often makes the difference for our customers,” said Tom James, UK Sales Manager at Niftylift. “You won’t find the 210 in most rental fleets because of its size, but it’s perfect for more specialist work like this.”
The machine is easy to move into position thanks to a motor mover, and its 100-degree platform rotation with fully proportional controls makes it ideal for navigating awkward or confined areas. Weighing in at under 3.5 tonnes, the Nifty 210 is also safe to use on driveways and in residential settings.
Prioritising Safety Without Sacrificing Efficiency
Safety remained at the core of the decision. All VEL Fit operatives were trained through IPAF, with a dedicated health and safety consultant developing detailed method statements for the Nifty 210’s deployment.
“Our team are well trained and experienced,” said Steve. “We always aim to strike the right balance between safety, efficiency, and cost.”
The Nifty 210 can safely support two operatives in the cage, with a third on the ground, enhancing communication and teamwork throughout each job.
“There are many built-in safety features on a Niftylift,” added Tom Hadden, Technical Sales Manager. “But it's the professionalism of operators like VEL Fit’s team that ensures those features are used to their full potential.”
Expanding Services with Giant Hire
With the Velux motor replacement project now complete, VEL Fit isn’t letting its investment sit idle. The company has launched a sister business—Giant Hire—offering the Nifty 210 for hire with a trained operator.
“We just couldn’t find another platform that ticked all the boxes,” said Steve. “It’s transformed how we operate, and now we want others to benefit too. If you can’t reach it, hire a giant!”
