NGK has announced that the NGK Insulators Group changed its name to NGK Corporation on 1 April 2026.
The company said the new name better reflects the breadth of the group’s activities today. NGK originally took its name from Nippon Gaishi Kaisha, meaning Japanese Insulator Company, but insulators now represent only a relatively small part of a business that has expanded into a wider range of advanced materials and technologies.
NGK’s operations are increasingly focused around areas including the environment, digital society and energy. The change is intended to provide a corporate identity that better represents the group’s role in developing technologies for challenges such as carbon neutrality and digital transformation.
The company said it will continue using its materials and technological capabilities to create new value across its markets under the NGK Corporation name.
