FORD CORTINA ROADTRIP TO CORTINA, ITALY
2012 is the 50th anniversary of the Ford Cortina, a car was named after the ski resort Cortina d’Ampezzo that nestles at the base of the Dolomites in Italy. To celebrate, a collection of Cortinas make the trip from UK to Cortina, echoing trips on the 30th and 40th anniversaries. The celebrations begin with an invitation to Ford’s Heritage Collection at Dagenham, where we will have a chance to view their vast collection of classic Ford cars. A send off by Ford’s Public Affairs Department and Directors marks the start of 2000 mile trip! Millers Oils are supplying VSPe fuel additive to all participants for trip, designed to combat the adverse effects that ethanol in modern fuel can cause for classic cars. Travelling through the countryside of France, the Cortinas reach their first hotel at Reims, then on to Dijon. Next destination is Montreux in Switzerland with the breathtaking scenery of the Swiss mountains, along with their traditional log cabin homes dotted all around the mountainsides. Italy is the destination for the next day, with a stay in Varese, followed by days 5 and 6 at Lake Garda and the potential to visit the legendry race circuit at Monza. The final leg is to Cortina d’Ampezzo for a stay of 3 days. It is hoped, as in the previous two trips, to have a civic reception at the town hall with the town’s Mayor and dignitaries. In past years the townspeople of Cortina have made Cortina drivers very welcome, giving the special privilege and approval of having cars parked on the normally pedestrianised high street, a fantastic sight, with 45-50 MK1 – Mk5 Classic Cortinas lined up in front of the Hotel Cortina.
