Butyl Flashing
Butyl Flashing, or foilband/ flash band as its known, is a high performance tape which comprises of a tacky adhesive bonded to a special U~V resistant film. It offers exceptional strength, adhesion and durability and is ideally suited for use in flashings between conservatories and brickwork. Unlike lead, it is quick, clean and easy to apply whilst also being fully compatible with PVC-U, timber and Polycarbonate glazing sheets., Butyl Flashing/ foilband is also excellent for sealing leaking roofs and for general flashing applications. INSTRUCTIONS Surface preparation: All surfaces should be clean, dry and free from frost, grease and loose materials. When cleaning contaminated substrates, Hodgson recommend that propan-2-ol (IPA) is used and allowed to dry prior to the application of the sealant strip. When applying the tape to porous or friable surfaces, it is recommended that the surface be treated with a suitable primer, such as an exterior grade PVA, to seal and stabilise the surface. Application: To avoid creasing of the foil, separate the foil and sealant from the backing paper as they are being unwound from the roll. Once applied in place, use a roller to ensure good adhesion to the substrate. Avoid joins in the flashing where possible. Any joints should overlap by at least 120mm, and be made with the uppermost piece overlapping on top of the lower strip, so that any water running down will drain freely over the front surface of the flashing. When applying the tape to textured surfaces, such as pebble dash or rough brick, it is recommended that a bead of Low Modulus Silicone is applied to the top edge of the foil to prevent water penetrating down behind the strip.
