MDM have manufactured some H range centrifugal pumps with a maximum ferrite level of 5% especially for a pharmaceutical application.

As the pumps are manufactured from solid bar, MDM could measure the ferrite levels in the raw material, and ensure that only bars with a ferrite level of less than 5% were used. Then using special 0% ferrite welding rods, the pump parts were fabricated. Previously, MDM have manufactured H range centrifugal pumps with a ferrite level of only 0.5%. But this involved buying a specially formulated batch of 316L stainless steel. It is believed that low levels of ferrite reduces the rouging seen in some pharmaceutical systems.
