HYDROPANEL ON A HIGH AFTER FIRE TESTS
Marley Eternit’s fibre cement cladding panels are already fire resistant to European Class O (A2-s1-d0) standards … but that was not good enough for the manufacturer when it came to its flagship building board Hydropanel. This new dry construction panel, which was designed for lining all areas of all types of buildings, including wet areas such as bathrooms and kitchens, has also been tried by that most testing of testing centres - Warrington Fire Regent. EN 13823:2002 tested Hydropanel for exposure to thermal attack by a single burning item and found there was no lateral spread of flame, no flaming particles or droplets, no smoke flowing out into the surrounding test room, no falling of parts, no development of a gap (failure of mutual fixing of backing boards) and no distortion or collapse. Hydropanel was also tested as single and double-layer 9mm and 12mm non-load bearing partition walls either side of an insulated steel frame, which was erected in a concrete frame and placed up against a furnace for 141 and 74 minutes respectively. During this time, the temperature rose to 180ºC but the material did not fail, sustain flaming or ignite a cotton pad.
