Nursery / Childcare in Barwell

Lynton Childcare in Barwell opened in July 2000 and is registered for 18 places. The overall ethos of Lynton is that we pride ourselves in being 'one big happy family' and we all feel privileged to know each and every child on a personal level.

The children’s well-being is paramount - we provide and maintain a safe, healthy environment for all our children. We value our children as individuals and recognise all their achievements during their journey at Lynton. With highly qualified caring staff, many facilities and a large secure garden with an additional Adventure Play Area - This is an ideal setting for young children aged 3 months to 11 years to play and learn in a safe, friendly and homely environment.

Child Development

Here at Lynton, the EYFS underpins everything that we do. We use the seven areas of learning from the Early Years Foundation Stage Guidance to plan for each child and promote development. The Early Years Foundation Stage sets the standards to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to promote children’s ‘school readiness’ and gives children a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life. The educational development of each child is overseen by our qualified Early Years Educators, ensuring the children are given a wide variety of age-appropriate early learning experiences and support during their journey with us.

Baby Room | Birth to 1yrs

Our baby room is a calm and relaxing space where our babies can safely explore and move around. We have one member of staff for every 3 babies.

The area is equipped with a range of soft toys, musical instruments, touchy-feely books, sensory toys and all other activities suitable for children within this age range – such as painting with yoghurt! We ensure the baby's routines and individual needs are met at all times, through care plans with parents. We use travel diaries so we can share with parents how their child has been throughout the day along with care needs. There is a section on travel diaries for parents to share messages too.

Toddler Room | 1yr – 3yrs

A variety of continuous provisions are on offer for our growing toddlers. In our toddler room children have access to mark-making materials, messy play, role-play, small-world toys, malleable play, construction and puzzles.

We join together for regular circle times throughout the day where children share stories, join in with rhymes or practise their skills such as balancing across our sensory path!

Our baby and toddlers access the outdoors regularly throughout the day, to explore the natural world or take part in sensory activities such as water play.

Cots, pushchairs and snooze mats are available to accommodate any age child who may need rest or sleep during the day - we work in partnership with parents for this. Each child is provided with their own fresh linen.

Pre-School Room | 2.5yrs – 4 yrs

Our preschool room provides lots of exciting opportunities for our learners to flourish and develop. In this number and letter-rich environment, children have on offer a range of continuous provisions to choose from to stimulate and educate our preschool children, such as arts and crafts, messy and exploratory play, construction, imaginative role-play and ICT equipment.

Each day our preschool children are invited to participate in a morning ‘wake and shake’ music and movement session or a ‘wellbeing yoga’ stretch to start our day!

Our preschool room has free-flow access to our large nursery garden – our outdoor space is something we are immensely proud of and it offers an abundance of wonder and awe for our children here at Lynton.

We have positive relationships with our local infant schools and welcome teacher visits as part of our school readiness programme. We invite teachers to come and meet the children and we take children for a walk in our local community to see their school.

Before & After School Club | 4yrs – 11yrs

Our School Club children can participate in arts and crafts, read books or magazines, play with small world or construction toys, socialise with friends or simply relax and watch a DVD after a busy day at school! When children come in after school, they are usually eager to access our outdoor space, before enjoying their afternoon tea with friends. Because our School Children are that little bit older, we do have 'Golden Rules' that children are made aware of to ensure our School Club is a happy environment for all the Children.

Outdoor Play & Learning

We are a very outdoorsy setting! At the rear of the property is a large enclosed garden with a separate paved area. A section of the outdoor space focuses on the natural environment and physical play, we call this our 'Adventure Play Area'. Our enchanted 'Willow Woods' fairy garden can be found here too, along with 'The Gruffalo' story walk! Children spend extended amounts of time in our outdoor space. Whether they are creating concoctions at our mud kitchen using our freshly grown herbs or peeking under logs in our fairy garden to locate any minibeast friends.

Outdoor Classrooms

We have two outdoor classrooms… 'The Cosy Cabin' and our adventure play 'Pavillion'. We also have a large shelter canopy on the patio area.

Outdoors children have a variety of things to choose from... Scooters, trikes, coupe cars, Playhouse, basketball, Muddy kitchen, Large sand pit, Water play, Adventure play area / park, Log seats, Mirrors, Mark making, Weaving, Planting, Digging and a separate growing area for fruit and vegetables.

Pets Therapy Corner

We have our very own small pets enclosure at Lynton where our resident rabbits live, Tilly and Fudge. This is a secure ‘walk-in’ enclosure where children can spend some time sitting on the cushions, in anticipation for the pets to come and see them. The children have the opportunity to learn about caring for a pet, have real-life experiences with animals and have that hands-on knowledge and understanding about animals. This is a naturally calming space at Lynton and contributes to the well-being of our children.
