Embracing Our Legacy, Shaping the Future

Lindapter’s journey began in 1934 when Engineer Henry Lindsay (1873 – 1954) developed an entirely new concept of connecting steelwork; simple and fast clamping as opposed to often difficult and time-consuming drilling or welding. The idea that was to revolutionise millions of future connections on countless projects spanning the globe was not dreamt of overnight, rather shaped by Lindsay’s previous experience coupled with his inventive mind.

Henry first launched the Lindsay Bolt Adapter, a single casting that converted an ordinary bolt into a hook bolt, which was used for a variety of applications including securing manufacturing equipment to steelwork. This unique solution quickly gained popularity and combining the two words ‘Lindsay Adapter’ explains the formation of the now famous brand name. A year later, in 1935, the original Girder Clamp was created to secure steel sections together, and it remains one of the company's most important product lines today.

During World War II, Lindapter's products were used extensively in the construction of temporary structures including air-raid shelters and Bailey Bridges where the clamps provided a quick and easy way to connect prefabricated steel panels to the bridge framework without welding or drilling in the field. Other applications were Mulberry Harbours and even PLUTO (Pipe Line Under The Ocean) used to supply fuel to the allied invasion forces in France.

In the 1950s, the company began to export its products to other countries, including the United States and Australia.

Lindapter's connections were increasingly used in the construction of major infrastructure projects around the world, including airports, bridges, and sports stadiums. Lindapter's products were also used in the construction of military aircraft.

Although typically used on structures, Lindapter's products were also used in the construction of ships to secure piping and electrical cables providing reliable connections that could withstand the rigors of sea travel.

In 1981, Henry Lindsay Ltd was renamed Lindapter International to reflect its growing global presence. Since then, Lindapter has continued to develop new products and expand its operations worldwide.

One notable product development in recent years has been the launch of the Hollo-Bolt, a high-strength structural bolt designed for use with hollow sections, tubes, and other walled structures. The Hollo-Bolt is a quick and easy alternative to welding or drilling and provides a reliable and durable connection that does not compromise the integrity of the steelwork.

The vast product range has continued to grow and today includes connection solutions for steelwork, composite decking, building services and steel flooring. Lindapter’s ethos of always putting the customer first is clear to see in its approach to providing “Technical Solutions” to unique customer requirements. Services such as connection detailing (FREE-of-charge!) and bespoke product development ensure that Lindapter’s customers always find a connection solution.

Lindapter has grown over 90 years from modest beginnings to a reputable global brand and strives to continue its proud heritage; to invent and deliver ‘Technical Innovation in Steelwork Connections’.

Today, Lindapter is a global leader in steelwork connection systems, with a wide range of products used in a variety of industries. The company continues to innovate and develop new solutions to meet the changing needs of its customers while maintaining its commitment to quality, safety, and reliability.
