Sandpit Lane
11-02-2010
At the original visit to site the clients requirements were for an existing steel frame to be brick columns with glass between the column to the main structure, following extensive design meetings we finally provided a glazed frameless system which enveloped the steel structure with large stepped edges blackened to hide the steel when viewed externally but provide clear uninterrupted glass surface, internally we provided insulation to the steel columns and over clad with stainless steel pressings. The difficulties of this project was with lifting the large 750 Kg central glass panel and the roof panels, due to the location of the house, a crane was not suitable and local authority acceptance was not permitted. To overcome this lifting, we provided a tubular scaffold with electric hoisting facilities and carefully lifted each panel at a time into position. Integrating at all times with the client and the on site builder, the finished project included the three storey glazed main entrance and three frameless roof lights located to the rear of the property.
