One year on: solar panels cut grid electricity use by 25% at Leafield's Wiltshire factory
One year after installing solar panels at its Wiltshire factory, Leafield Environmental has reduced its reliance on grid electricity by around 25%.

The 504-panel solar installation was completed in September 2025 and has generated approximately 215 MWh of clean electricity during its first year of operation. Leafield says the system has also avoided around 38.16 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions, an impact the company equates to approximately 2,522 trees.

The investment is particularly significant for Leafield because rotational moulding is an energy-intensive manufacturing process. Generating a greater proportion of electricity on site helps the business reduce emissions while improving resilience against changing energy costs.

Leafield Environmental manufactures litter and recycling bins and other rotationally moulded products at its Wiltshire facility. The solar project forms part of its wider efforts to improve the environmental performance of its manufacturing operations.
