Race Report from Round 3, Cadwell Park. April 2019

This weekend saw Lamonde Automation sponsored Matt Wetherell at the well-known Lincolnshire circuit, Cadwell Park. The weather was dismal, wet, windy and everything in between, interspersed with sudden dry spells, which made tyre choice the order of the day. Those of you familiar with Cadwell Park will no doubt know about “the mountain”, where it’s not unusual for bikes to loft the front wheel as they crest the rise… Wheelie on the Moutain, Cadwell Park. Matt qualified 7th overall, and 1st rookie, placing him in the 3rd row on the grid for race 1. Race 1 for Matt was spent battling with Kevin Lilley, Matt finished a very respectable 6th and 1st in the rookie class. Race 2, Matt started from the second row of the grid in 5th (the start positions are determined by the best lap from the previous race). Again Matt battled with Kevin and finished within a close margin with him for 5th place, still 1st rookie. Saturday was rounded off by Matt collecting his trophies along with the “Rookie of the day” award and a spot prize. Well deserved Sunday’s racing got underway, however, a false start and being sent back to the paddock, Matt changed from wets to drys as the track had suddenly dried out, the final call for the bikes to line up came as Matt and buddy Alan were still putting their wheels in. They just made it, however, Matt’s dry tyres had not had warmers on, unfortunately, Matt low-sided on Gooseneck, the first left-hander on the circuit as the left side of his tyre was too cold to grip. He was unhurt and the bike not too bad, however, this was a DNF, meaning that for the later race he’d have to start from the back of the grid. But first he’d need to get his bike ship-shape again… with the aid of cable ties, tape and friendly friends and rivals pitching in to help. Bike repaired After the disappointment of Sunday’s race 1 and after he’d finished cursing, Matt was determined to do well. Starting from 36th place, he carved through to finish 12th overall & first in class. Why not follow Matt on Facebook here? Well done Matt from all at Lamonde.
