Nickel has a particular ability to alloy with a range of metals, which has led to the development of a range of alloys with exceptional strength and corrosion resistance (particularly at elevated temperatures) and excellent electrical resistance.
These alloys tend to be expensive, so are used solely for high performance applications such as nuclear and aerospace springs and fasteners, furnace components, pressure vessels.
