KEE SAFETY RESTORES SAFE ACCESS TO CYPRUS POWER STATION
Fall protection specialist, Kee Safety has provided roof top safety to Vasilikos Power Station in Cyprus following a devastating explosion at a nearby military facility. As the largest power station in Cyprus, Vasilikos is responsible for half of the power supply on the island. In order to resume full services after the explosion, the site required extensive refurbishment and repair. When planning the safe roof access requirements, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) requested a safety solution that would eradicate any potential slips, trips and falls. Kee Safety’s new Kee Walk aluminium walkway was specified to reduce the risk of slips & trips for the exterior roof as it provides high corrosion resistance. Kee Walk® aluminium walkway provides a simple modular solution that can be quickly installed to any roof type up to a 45 degree pitch. The specially designed modular chassis allows for complete adjustment on site negating the need for on-site fabrication and hot works permits. Being an ‘off the shelf’ product, specification is simpler and removes the need for a site survey, minimising site visits. Kee Walk® aluminium walkways, when installed to standing seam roofs, are fixed using non-penetrative 2-part clamps and metal profile roofs are fixed with minimal penetrations using rivets and butyl sealing strip to maintain the roof’s integrity. To tackle the falling issue on-site, Kee Line® Horizontal Lifeline was specified alongside Kee Walk® on the roof, as well as to the internal cranes to ensure user safety at height. KeeLine® is a wire based personal protection system for roof installation or horizontal / overhead applications on structures. The wire system comprises an 8mm grade 316 stainless steel wire system with electro-polished brackets and detachable travellers that provide flexible, continuous protection for users when working at height. The project was carried out by Kee Safety installer, PDG Installations UK and was completed within 14 days. The main contractor on site was IACOVOU Group. George Trypiniotis, Project Manager at IACOVOU commented: “Congratulations on a job well done. We were delighted to be working with UK-based Kee Safety, alongside the approved-installers PDG. It allowed for easy cooperation which ensured the project was completed in a timely fashion without any problems.” For more information on Kee Safety’s range of fall prevention and protection equipment, or to find out more about the international export department, please visit www.keesafety.co.uk.
