Portable Hybrid Energy Capsule

JCE designed and delivered a compact, containerised Portable Hybrid Energy Capsule to provide reliable off-grid and backup power. Combining lithium-ion battery storage with a hybrid inverter and integrated controls, the plug-and-play system enables seamless connection to existing solar arrays or the local grid. Easily transportable and quick to deploy, the solution enhances energy resilience, reduces reliance on traditional grid supply, and offers a flexible, mobile power source tailored to rural energy needs.

Several rural properties have recently experienced an increase in power outages—often caused by severe storms and changing weather patterns—resulting in disruption to property owners and reduced confidence in the reliability of the grid. To address this, JCE developed a Portable Hybrid Energy Capsule (PHEC) that can be rapidly deployed and connected to a property with minimal installation requirements.

The goal was to design a system that:

  • Provides reliable backup power during grid outages and weather-related disruptions.
  • Integrates seamlessly with existing onsite solar panels.
  • Remains fully mobile, allowing units to be transported, recharged offsite, and redeployed as needed.

Solution

JCE engineered a Portable Hybrid Energy Capsule, built using a compact standard container footprint.
The system is supplied fully assembled, factory tested, and ready for rapid deployment.

Key System Components:

  • Hybrid inverter (single or three phase)
  • Lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery storage
  • AC isolator
  • DC isolator and junction box
  • Cables and accessories
  • Standard portable container enclosure

The unit is designed to be easily transported to a property and connected directly to:

  • Existing solar panel connectors (via external junction boxes)
  • The property’s AC distribution board

How it works

The system operates as a hybrid energy storage solution, allowing the battery to support the property during outages or optimise daily solar production.

Capabilities include:

  • Storing renewable energy to supply power during grid loss
  • Load balancing during high-demand periods
  • Emergency backup power mode
  • Seasonal operation flexibility (off-grid, battery backup, or energy reduction)

If required, the unit can also be recharged offsite and transported back to the property, offering additional assurance during prolonged outages or winter months.

Outcome

The solution delivers several advantages for rural customers:

  • Reliability– ensures power availability even during grid failures
  • Mobility– containerised design allows the unit to be delivered and relocated as required
  • Integration– quick connection to existing solar panels and electrical distribution
  • Flexibility– multiple inverter operating modes provide seasonal or situational adaptability
  • Minimal installation– fully assembled and tested prior to delivery; plug-and-connect on site

Conclusion

The Portable Hybrid Energy Capsule offers a practical and flexible approach to securing reliable power supply for rural properties impacted by outages. By combining battery storage, solar integration capability, and transportability, the solution enables property owners to maintain power continuity and energy independence — without requiring permanent infrastructure or complex installation.

JCE’s solution provides a mobile, resilient, and ready-to-use backup energy system that adapts to user needs throughout the year.
