Astec Precision has invested in a new manual swarf centrifuge to reclaim cutting oil at their new facility.

The Lancashire based turned parts manufacturer approached J&S Engineering as they were looking to reduce their environmental impact and make cost savings at their new 28,500 sq ft facility. Their unprocessed swarf had a relatively low recycling value and they weren’t reclaiming any of their oil.

By investing in an Aryma 61 manual centrifuge from J&S Engineering, Astec are now able to reclaim 99% of their cutting oil which they can re-use across their machines in their new factory. The reclaimed oil is filtered & ready to be reused straight away.

In addition to this, the now dry swarf holds a good return from its recycling value.

Manufacturing with multiple materials across 17 sliding head machines means that Astec accumulate different types of swarf waste which have to be processed separately.

The Aryma 61 manual centrifuge enables them to deal with each type without cross contamination as the drum is fitted with a filter bag. Multiple bags can be supplied and bags can be cleaned in between uses.

The centrifuge was supplied with a separate oil tank fitted with an automatic pump which the reclaimed oil is fed into. The tank is constructed in a ‘weir’ style with a float switch and output pump. When the tank is full, the centrifuge automatically stops. There is a built-in pump for emptying the oil from the tank either manually or automatically into an IBC.
