TELESCOPIC ARMS FOR SEMI-SUBMERSIBLE RIGS

Houlder won the contract to design, develop and fabricate four Telescopic Arms for Aker Kvaerner’s two Aker H-6e Semi Submersible rigs. The telescopic arms were manufactured in Scotland under Houlder’s supervision before being installed on the rigs during their construction in Norway. The arms offer an extension capacity of 6.8m with a S.W.L of 10 tonnes at full extension. The arms facilitate remote coupling and operation of equipment under the moonpool as illustrated below. Importantly this removes the need for potentially dangerous human intervention.
