SEMI-SUB SKIDDING AND HANDLING SYSTEMS

Houlder was contracted by Stena to upgrade their semi-submersible rig, Stena Don. Stena Don is a dynamically postioned, harsh environment semi-submersible drilling, completion and workover vessel for worldwide operations. Its tree handling capabilities were developed on a turnkey basis, with the design work carried out in Houlder’s Aberdeen office. Houlder also project managed their procurement, installation and commissioning. The installation was carried out in two phases. Phase one was completed while the rig was in transit to the CCB Shipyard, Bergen. Phase two was completed while at the yard. This ensured time out of service was minimised. The Houlder contract also included a number of modifications to subsea equipment and handling systems, which were carried out at the same time.
