LONDON EYE ACCESS AND BERTHING PONTOON SYSTEM
The London Eye is the world famous observation wheel located on the south bank of the River Thames, at the western end of Jubilee Gardens. With a height of 135 metres (442.9 feet), it is the tallest observation wheel in the world. Houlder designed a series of floating pontoons at the base of the wheel to allow safe small boat access and provide appropriate collision protection. A 100m pontoon, 46m brow and 52m boom form a deformable guard around the wheel. Should a vessel impact occur the system is designed to deform and move up to ten metres. The energy of the vessel is absorbed by transverse and longitudinal Jarret Units.
