DESIGN OF FLEXIBLE PIPELAY DECK AND SEATINGS

Houlder provided the detailed design of a modular pipelay deck and seatings for support of the flexible pipelay equipment on the new build vessel ‘Normand Seven’. The flexible pipe is stored on 10 reels on the Main Deck and loaded on and off the vessel at the pipe loading terminal. The Normand Seven has an overall length of 130 metres and is a dynamically positioned offshore support vessel, on long-term charter from Solstad Offshore ASA to Subsea 7. Following the vessel completion in July 2007 in Norway, the ‘Normand Seven’ went to A&P Tyne Ltd shipyard at Hebburn on the south side of the River Tyne, to be fitted with the new pipelay deck and associated equipment. Houlder’s work scope involved several months of preliminary design work in early 2006, establishing the vessel general arrangement with Subsea 7, before commencing detailed structural engineering and CAD drafting at Houlder’s London and Tyneside offices.
