Ballast Water Management Website
Houlder has announced the launch of a new website focusing on its Ballast Water Management (BWM) technical consultancy services. You can visit HoulderBWT.com by clicking here. Project Director, Julian Mason (pictured with his team) shared the news at a Ballast Water Management Breakfast seminar held at the Society of Maritime Industries headquarters. Jonathan Spremulli, Technical Director with the International Chamber of Shipping and Sahan Abeysekara, Lead Specialist, Engineering Systems at Lloyd’s Register also spoke at the event which covered the latest development in the IMO BWM convention and provided practical Ballast Water Management advice for vessel operators. Having designed and modified numerous ships and offshore assets, Houlder can offer an independent engineering assessment of the right Ballast Water Management system for a specific vessel. Factors such as vessel design, ballast pump flow rate, the availability of space and the system power supply are all factors to be considered when making a prudent choice of system. Our inhouse marine engineering capability means we are ideally placed to take accountability for installations on our clients behalf including all survey, design and yard works. Houlder has been engaged with Ballast Water Management since The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) legislation governing discharge was ratified. It has been providing wholly independent technical consultancy and design services for thirty years. It’s recent client base includes ferry operators, offshore contractors, global energy companies, Government and Navies. Ballast Water Management events, like Houlder’s Breakfast Seminar, are essential for familiarisation with regulation and available technologies. Ballast water treatment systems can be complex, and two operationally similar systems can have significant fundamental differences. This provides the marine industry with a wide range of opportunities and risks. This new regulation’s impact is already being felt around the marine industry. Julian and his colleagues from Houlder will continue to work with equipment suppliers, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure the team’s knowledge is up to date and we can provide accurate and timely engineering and technical advice to our clients.
