TECHNICAL ADVICE IN IRRAWADDY, BURMA

Mike Simpson, Managing Director of our Marine Design team demonstrated our global reach with a recent trip to the Irrawaddy region of Burma. Orient Express Hotels called upon his expertise in support of the repair, remodelling and refurbishment of their famous river cruiser, ROAD TO MANDALAY. Houlders Marine Design team provided technical support to the vessel’s original conversion for the Burmese tourist route. As a result, it was ideally placed to return to the cruiser and assess the impact of cyclone Nargis on its hull and superstructure. After seeing the vessel and referring to its original design documents, Mike was able to outline a repair strategy and brief onsite project management on hull and structural integrity.
