Thermic innovation for West Australian Ballet

The Quarry Amphitheatre at the top of Reabold Hill, City Beach in Perth, Australia is home to West Australian Ballet's season under the stars "Ballet at the Quarry". The open air venue is surrounded by spectacular limestone walls and bushland where ballet-goers can enjoy a picnic as the sun sets whilst watching the dancers warm up on stage before the performance. This year's purpose built staging featured state of the art innovative specialist dance flooring Harlequin Liberty Thermic heated sprung floor. The newest innovation from the premier Harlequin Liberty range, the heated panels enable the floor to maintain the optimum dance surface for the prodigious ballet company by ensuring condensation is removed from the outdoor stage. The Company commissioned Harlequin’s revolutionary floor to fulfil a requirement to maintain a moisture-free dance floor in temperature conditions which regularly drop to the dew point throughout the season. A collaborative process yielded the inventive Harlequin Thermic floor panel which combines layers of insulation with film heating elements topped with plywood used in marine environments. The heated panels operate in a temperature range of 25 to 28 degrees Celsius and produce the required heat to evaporate moisture and to further alleviate surface water from forming on the stage following rain. Harlequin Floors are delighted to have fulfilled the challenging brief which has ensured West Australian Ballet's outdoor season a tremendous success.
