Foil-backed plasterboard is designed primarily to provide a vapour-control layer, helping limit moisture movement through certain wall and ceiling constructions.
What to consider
It can be useful in parts of a building where condensation risk needs to be managed, but it is not a universal replacement for standard plasterboard. The wider wall build-up, insulation, ventilation and expected room conditions all need to be considered. Acoustic and fire requirements may also call for different or additional board types.
Always follow the system designer’s guidance rather than mixing products based on one property alone. In office fit-outs, moisture control, fire performance and acoustics need to work together.
