Fotobor Retrospective Article
The March edition of GeoDrilling International (pdf document) (issue number 140, page 39) has a retrospective article about the development of the Fotobor borehole survey instrument written by James Tweedie. The Fotobor was the first survey instrument used by James Tweedie when he worked as a Field Geologist with Consolidated Golds Fields at the Gairloch, Wester Ross project in the early 1980s. The information provided by the system convinced him that accurate surveying of ALL drilled holes was essential to obtain a good geological model for further planning (both geological and financial). The article describes the development of the Fotobor based on published articles, on-line information and Dr. Tweedies personal knowledge. It was intended to recognise and acknowledge those who developed this, for it's time, revolutionary borehole survey instrument as it seemed that this was sadly lacking and had been ignored for some reason in the histories of the development of the Reflex and Flexit survey instruments.
