Find The Needle Add My Company
Q&A: Meet the team
Today we are returning to the monthly Q&A with a member of the EWFM team. This months Q&A, I interviewed Mike Phillips, who is the Business Development Manager. Tell us a bit about yourself: I recently turned 40 and have a great family. My wife and children are everything to me and I love spending as much time with them as possible. Over the last 12-18 months I have developed a great passion for running, cycling, and walking and thoroughly enjoy exploring the great outdoors. When time allows, I enjoy watching all sports, playing golf, reading, listening to classical music, and supporting local good causes. How long have you been at the company: I joined EWFM back in April 2017, so I have been here just over 4 years. What roles have you undertaken during your time: When I first joined in 2017, I started out as a sales engineer. Then in the middle of this current year, I got a promotion to business development manager which I am thoroughly enjoying so far! What is your current role: I am currently the business development manager at EWFM. My main roles are to find new clients and markets and then manage relationships with our existing customers. I also deal with new enquiries and manage ongoing applications. What does a usual day in the office have in store for you as Business Development Manager: A typical day for me can vary quite a lot depending upon if I am out on the road or in the office. When in the office, a typical day will be working with the sales team, dealing with new customer enquiries, and providing quotations to our customers.  I will also be reviewing ongoing projects, ensuring these are running to plan and dealing with any queries that may occur during the process. A lot of time is spent on the phone contacting both potential and existing customers. When I am out of the office and on the road, I will be meeting existing or potential customers at their sites.  This can be to discuss new or upcoming projects, or it can simply be a general catch up or an introduction to EWFM.  I value these visits and the time I get to spend with our customers.  They allow me to strengthen the relationships we have and it also allows us a much better insight into current and potential future requirements. COVID travel restrictions may be restricting these visits to the UK only at present, but I hope it won’t be too long before I am able to visit some of our customers who are further afield. What is your favourite product and why: Loading Arms are my favourite product.  We receive enquiries from all over the world for a wide variety of applications and requirements and we are still finding new applications all the time which is hugely exciting.  This makes every project slightly different. The quality of our arms and long working life span has created some very happy customers and provided some amazing feedback. I have been involved in some very interesting projects from small breweries to major international airports. Finally, tell us about your experience of working at EWFM so far: My colleagues make working with EWFM great fun.  We have got an amazing team who all share our common goal and are determined to ensure our customers receive the very best. Our customers also make working for EWFM a hugely enjoyable experience.  I love the fact that I can be speaking with a customer in Asia early in the morning and then in the evening be speaking with a customer in North or South America.  Understanding their different cultures and languages allows me to create some wonderful relationships and friendships. The variety of industries that we serve means every day is different and whilst that provides its own challenges it brings great rewards Thanks to Mike for the Q&A this week, please come back in October for the next part of the Q&A series with a member of the EWFM team.
