How to change the seals on our standard model 2175 Swivel Joint
How to change the seals on our standard model 2175 Swivel Joint Changing the seals in a model 2175 swivel joint is not as hard to do as you may think and you don’t necessarily have to be an engineer to do it. It is a quick and cost effective exercise and prolongs the swivel life for a small outlay. Start with disassembling the swivel joint Unscrew the ball plugs and the grease nipple of the female part Block the swivel joint so that the holes of the ball bearing raceways are turned down Start to turn the male part of the swivel to allow the ball bearings to escape. (It may be helpful to pass compressed air through the grease nipple hole or apply some kerosene to soften the residual grease) Once the balls are released, extract the male part of the swivel, taking care not to damage the sealing surface Remove the seal in the female part and the 2 x 0-rings on the male part of the swivel Clean the grease off both parts of the swivel Check for corrosion, if in doubt, ask the manufacturer To reassemble, reverse the above procedure Block the female part of the swivel so that the holes of the ball bearing raceway are turned up Insert the primary seal into the female part, lubricate with a little grease Using a brush, grease the inside of the female part of the swivel Insert the 2 x 0-rings into the male part of the swivel, then using a brush, grease the outside Insert the male part of the swivel into the female One at a time, put the ball bearings in the first race while turning the male part, then screw the relative ball plug Repeat the same procedure for the second raceway, then screw the grease nipple Important things to remember: Make sure the numbers on both parts of the swivel match Take care not to damage the sealing surface of the body flange The swivel must be out of service with no product present Maintenance Instructions It is probably a good idea to check every six months that the swivel is not leaking and that its manoeuvrability is constant and uniform.
