Knife Gate Valve

To prevent the propagation of flame along a pneumatic conveying pipe the Slam Shut Valve is used. When activated by a pressure switch or vent panel burst indicator, a signal is sent via an interface unit to a small gas generator located on the valve body. The gas generator then creates pressure inside of a pneumatic cylinder causing the valve plate to close. The machining tolerances of the valve coupled with the tight seals, prevent flame from passing around the full bore blade. The valve remains in the closed position until it is re-set. Returning the valve to its armed and opened position is simple. Solenoid valves can be provided to slowly open or close the valve using compressed air from the plant. Position indicator switches can provide remote indication of the status of the valve. The slam shut valve can be used against high violence dust explosions up to a maximum Kst=600 bar.m.s-1 depending on the detection and controls.
