Eriez FinesSort Reclaims Fine Metal Particles
Eriez Magnetics Europe Ltd. FinesSort® Metal recovery system is the ultimate in fine particle metal reclamation. The FinesSort® helps scrap processor’s increase profitability by recovering materials less than 25mm in diameter and thus aids reduction in materials sent to landfill. The Eriez FinesSort is a two stage system incorporating a Rare Earth Permanent Magnetic Drum (Stage 1a) with a Ferrite Permanent Magnetic Drum (Stage 1b) in the first stage and an Eddy Current Separator (Stage 2) in the second stage. Eriez can offer to supply each stage of the FinesSort separately or as a complete FinesSort unit and is available in 1m, 1.2m and 1.5m feed widths and with throughputs from 2 tonnes per hour. In the first stage the shredder residue is fed onto a 300mm diameter Rare Earth Radial (RR) Permanent Magnetic Drum (stage 1a) to remove all ferrous metals. In turn the ferrous metals and entrapped non metallic metals are then diverted onto a 300mm diameter Ferrite Radial (FR) Permanent Magnetic Drum (Stage 1b) to separate the highly magnetic material from weakly magnetic material. The waste stream produced from Stage 1 which very often contains valuable smaller non-ferrous metals that would normally end up in landfill is fed to stage 2. Stage 2 utilises either a RevX-E ST or a RevX ST Eriez Eddy Current Separator, which are both ideal for separating 0-12mm particles, to process and sort the non-ferrous metals from the non-metallic waste stream. This is done by using a strong metallic rotor that revolves at high speeds inside a non-magnetic shell. A conveyor belt transports material into the revolving field where eddy currents are generated in the non-ferrous metals causing the particles to repel away from the rotating magnetic fields. Carlton Hicks – Sales Manager Recycling – goes onto explain the implications for scrap processors: “Typically scrap processors have been concerned with reclaiming the larger non-ferrous metals. The smaller sized materials that have been passed are typically sent to landfill. With the FinesSort the smaller material from the waste stream, which normally represents around 20% of the original total flow, can be sorted giving yields on non-ferrous metals in the region of 5% representing a sound return on investment”. Eriez will be displaying the new FinesSort at the Recycling and Waste Management (RWM) show in Birmingham, UK, 13-15th September 2011. Customers are invited to bring representative samples to the Eriez booth (1410) to see what separation capabilities the FinesSort is capable of.
