As with all young companies the directors were involved with building and environmental maintenance services with other organisations prior to starting EMS. The main issues that struck them were that the services provided were not centred on the customer but on price. Environmental Maintenance Service Ltd (E-M-S) are focused at overcoming this situation. The two directors, Graham Lingham and Ian Childs initially formed the organisation The Facilities Engineering Company in 1996. As the name suggests the company focused on providing specialist-engineering services support for larger building services, maintenance and facilities management companies. EMS has built on this initial success by broadening its services as requested by its customers. We relocated our main offices in 1998 to Orpington but maintained offices at a number of locations around central London so that our reaction times for our customers could be kept to an absolute minimum. Since then we have also opened an additional liaison office in Richmond to support some of our larger customers in South West London. Naturally we take account of our name (Environmental Maintenance Services Ltd) and ensure that we protect the environment by correctly disposing of waste and minimising the use of resources, always opting for renewable or recycled resources when ever possible.
