Shree Swaminarayan Temple Opening Ceremony

Delta’s Managing Director, Christopher Burbridge and some of the Delta Team were delighted to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Shree Swaminarayan Temple Regeneration Project in Willesden, London.

The Opening Ceremony included tours of the facilities, visiting the Gujarati School and Bhakti Dharma Centre and feasting with foods provided by the Prasad/kitchen.

The Shree Swaminarayan Temple was one of the first and largest Hindu Temples to be established in the United Kingdom in 1975. With the old church being knocked down and replaced with a new temple in 1988, the regeneration project at a cost of over £8.5 million is one of the biggest projects the community has seen internationally.

The Regeneration Project includes new purpose built classrooms to teach and inspire, accessibility improvements, a library and shop, kitchen, IT/media/audio security systems, a modernised wedding venue, Bal Kendra and bespoke facilities for mothers, banquet and dining halls, accommodation for when the Acharaya Maharajshree visit and the Bhakti Dharma Centre, a 19 roomed sheltered accommodation care home with landscaped gardens.

Delta Membrane Systems were delighted to undertake the Waterproofing Design for the car park and Bhakti Dharma Centre.

Christopher Burbridge said “It was a great privilege and honour to attend the Shree Swaminarayan Temple Opening Ceremony. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit the Temple and Bhakti Dharma Centre and to meet such interesting people, all of whom have played a large part in this community-based regeneration project. I was blown away with every aspect of the project. For Delta to have provided the waterproofing design is a real honour, we don’t often get to visit projects in their finished form, as much of the waterproofing element is at the very beginning of projects. I was incredibly impressed with the Gujarati School, which is a centre of excellence for the teaching of Gujarati in the UK. The community has achieved so much! The Temple which houses the first marble idol of Ghanshyam Maharaj (which is the only one installed outside of India), is incredible. I hope that it brings peaceful worship to all that use it. Thank you to our hosts, I feel incredibly humbled to have been so welcomed.”
