Aerospace, Design Substantiation Vibration analysis of Aeronautical components. DC White were recently involved in the independent design substantiation of various system monitoring components of the new generation of Trent engines for Weston Aerospace (www.esterline.com). The aerospace industry is a field of engineering which requires the highest standard of work. DC White has abundant experience in this sector, with previous analysis work ranging from large mechanical components including turbine blades, to the intricate and geometrically complex monitoring and control systems such as speed and temperature sensors. Our attention to detail, as well as the logical and structured approach we apply to the analysis work we undertake, allows us to take pride in the work which we produce. Stringent internal verification procedures are implemented at regular intervals during each project. Our design substantiation focused primarily on vibration. However, additional load cases were examined in parallel in order to meet the specification. Stringent timescales were imposed by Rolls-Royce, with severe consequences including hefty fines and significant damage to the reputation of both companies if deadlines were not met. Under circumstances such as this, a continual feedback loop is implemented with results of interest relayed to the client as soon as they are uncovered, thus lessening the risk of performing unnecessary analysis work which can have a large impact on the timescale and cost of the job. Under the extreme conditions imposed on aeronautical components, circumstances which would normally be acceptable sometimes require additional investigation. We have a duty of care to investigate every possible means of failure extending to those outside of the scope of work: any such additional recommendations would be compiled in the report.
