High temperatures, dust and contamination can make conventional gas-flow measurement difficult, particularly where probes or sensors sit directly in the gas stream.

CODEL's VCEM 5100 uses two infrared sensors positioned outside the duct to detect radiated heat patterns from the flue gas. By correlating the movement of those patterns, the system calculates gas velocity without the sensors coming into contact with the process gas.

With no measurement components exposed directly to the gas stream, the system avoids many of the clogging and contamination issues associated with intrusive measurement methods in hot, dusty or wet applications.
