NATO Stock Numbers (NSN)
In the world of aerospace, defence, and industrial equipment, precision and reliability matter, especially when it comes to replacing parts. One of the most efficient tools for identifying and ordering interchangeable components is the NATO Stock Number (NSN). We know how critical it is to get the right part first time, every time, and we use NSNs as a cornerstone of our sourcing process to make that happen for our customers.
What Is an NSN?
An NSN (NATO Stock Number) is a 13-digit, globally recognised code used to identify standardised materials and components. Originally developed for military logistics, NSNs are now widely used across industries to ensure accurate communication about parts, reduce errors, and simplify procurement.
Each NSN is unique to a specific item — whether it’s a hydraulic pump, hose assembly, seal kit, or electrical part — and tells you exactly what that item is, regardless of manufacturer. Because NSNs are recognised internationally, they help eliminate ambiguity in part descriptions and ensure consistency between buyers, suppliers, and manufacturers.
How NSNs Work
An NSN might look like this: 5310-01-234-5678
Here’s what it means:
- First 4 digits (5310): Identifies the Federal Supply Class (FSC) — the general product category (e.g. 5310 = Hydraulic Power Transmission Components).
- Next 2 digits (01): Country Code — where the NSN was first assigned.
- Last 7 digits (234-5678): Unique item identifier.
This consistent structure makes it simple to search for and reference parts across systems and documentation.
Why NSNs Matter to You
Using NSNs brings major benefits to your supply chain:
- Clarity: No guesswork or confusion over part names or descriptions.
- Speed: Faster identification and procurement of parts.
- Accuracy: Reduced risk of ordering incorrect components.
- Interchangeability: Easier comparison of compatible products from different manufacturers.
- Traceability: Essential for military, aviation, and regulated industrial sectors.
Sourcing Products — Fast and Reliable
With a verified NSN in hand, sourcing parts becomes much more straightforward but sourcing still requires experience, global reach, and quality control. Here’s how we help:
✨ Vetted supplier network — We work with trusted manufacturers and distributors who meet aerospace and industrial standards.
✨ Authenticity assured — We take part authentication seriously, especially for critical or regulated components.
✨ Competitive pricing — Because we understand the market, we can find the best value without compromising quality.
✨ Stock visibility — We search multiple channels — current inventory, refurbished options, and forward buys — to find what you need.
✨ Customer support — Our team keeps you informed from quote through delivery.
