CHELSEA: PERENNIAL GARDEN
Perennial is a wonderful organisation that supports people working in the horticultural industry when they need it. They offer skills and retraining to work in the industry too. So we were delighted to see a show garden created in their honour at this year’s Chelsea Flower Show. A TIMELESS FORMAL DESIGN This garden was designed by Richard Miers, who has over 26 years experience in garden design. This garden was designed as a tribute to a charity that is close to the industry’s heart. With a mix of classical and contemporary style, the garden guides the eye along a vista. A tricky endeavour in a small space, but magnificently executed. INSPIRED BY THE LASKETT GARDEN This Chelsea Show Garden was inspired by the iconic Laskett Garden, in Herefordshire. A place that’s very important to us at Chilstone. The Laskett was created by Sir Roy Strong and his late wife, Julia. We supplied a large number of the pieces featured within it. The feature statue of a Recumbent Stag was hand made by Chilstone. We even gilded the antlers. We were touched to see our statue along with many of our pieces featured on the BBC as part of their Chelsea coverage. Sir Roy Strong used our stone ornaments in an innovative way. Mixing and matching components and painting them with pops of colour to make this truly unique garden. It was a magnificent project to work on and we are pleased that this garden’s future is secured by Perennial. FORMAL GARDENS ARE OUR SPECIALITY Richard Mires’ use of a long, rectangular water feature to draw the eye along a vista has been used by some of our clients to make spectacular gardens. LUPINS AND ALLIUMS The planting scheme reminded us of our Garden Trade Stands in previous years, with lupins and alliums in white and purple, grown by How Green Nursery. It made us reminisce about previous shows. We are at Chelsea this year on the stand of our friends, Griffin Glasshouses, stand RHW611. Come along and say hello! And don’t forget our show gardens just outside Tunbridge Wells are open too!
