Structural & Decorative Brick Arches

Bulmer Brick Cutting specialises in the design and manufacture of traditional arches. Arches can be cut from either genuine fully-washed rubbing blocks or from client-supplied stock material. Our own software, designed and compiled in house, has been developed to replicate traditional setting-out methods for any size, shape or style of arch. Joint widths can be reduced to 1mm or less for the finest rubbed and gauged work. An arch is the traditional and most aesthetically pleasing method of support over an opening in brick or stone walling. Arches come in all shapes and sizes. Every cut-brick arch is assembled from accurately tapered sections called voussoirs. Part of the appeal of an arch is that you can see and understand how it works. An arch makes sense! You can see how it supports a load. When an arch is carefully built with a high degree of skill, with uniform parallel joints, and laid symmetrically about a centre line, it is a work of art in its own right. We have designed our systems of manufacture to capture the traditional geometry and the hand-crafted style of the Master Bricklayers and craftsmen of the past.
