Axon’ Cable has been successfully released into orbit

The satellite PROBA V was sent into orbit on the 7th May by VEGA, the launch vehicle of the European Space Agency (ESA) in order to monitor the vegetation coverage of our planet. The images transferred by the satellite, fully cabled by Axon’, highlight the expertise in cabling engineering from the Axon’ Cable teams. A satellite fully cabled by Axon’ Axon’ Cable has equipped the launch vehicle VEGA with not only the MIL-STD-1553 data bus transmission harnesses but also the whole of the platform cabling of this observation satellite. In addition, Axon’ has also cabled the payload manufactured respectively by the Belgium companies Qinetiq and OIP. Axon’ has delivered microwave coaxial assemblies used to connect the satellite’s antennae, cable assemblies made with ESA approved wires, D-sub connectors, miniature micro-D connectors and a complex, multi branch harness comprising 46 connectors. This cutting-edge technology is designed to connect elements of the satellite’s equipment including solar panels and stabilization instruments and also observation and measurement devices (payload). Space design and manufacture A co-engineered cabling study between Axon’ Cable and Qinetiq Space Belgium enabled the implantation of cable routing within the satellite. The cable assemblies made with space grade materials were manufactured in a ISO 7 clean room under controlled atmosphere and temperature. He cabling was achieved on a 3 D mockup at scale 1:1. Once the products were manufactured and delivered, Axon’ Cable finalized the cabling on site.
