Artificial Grass Installation – Everything You Need to Know
Artificial grass installation is a great way to get a luscious-looking lawn without the maintenance that often comes with the real thing.
Bringing a wide range of benefits to every garden and outdoor space, at Artificial Lawn Company we’ve spent more than 25 years installing quality artificial grass for clients throughout Maidstone, Gravesend, Medway and the surrounding areas.
In this article, we’ll outline everything you need to know about artificial grass installation, guiding you through the process and the benefits it offers.
Artificial grass installation process
At Artificial Lawn Company, we make the installation process extremely straightforward and with minimal disruption to you.
Taking a tailored approach, our process is as follows:
- Site Survey to measure the area, discuss your needs and show you our samples
We’ll start with a professional site survey where we’ll assess your space. Our expert team will take the time to listen to your requirements and then recommend our most suitable artificial grass products. Then, we’ll measure the space to determine the exact amount of artificial grass required. While you might have already given us the dimensions for your initial budget quotation, we always double-check for accuracy and ensure you only ever pay for what you need. Your full written quotation will shortly follow after your free site survey.
- Removing the existing lawn
The next step is to remove your existing lawn and dig down to prepare a stable base for your artificial grass installation. The depth will vary to suit your requirements and drainage.
- Laying the subbase
A solid yet free-draining subbase is essential for durability.
We typically use a granite aggregate mix consisting of stone and dust which is compacted. We use our own specially blended mix which is more stone and less dust, perfect for pets and offering maximum drainage. Depending on the project, alternative aggregates, such as type 1 or shock pads, may also be used to suit your specific needs.
- Installing the weed membrane
To prevent weed growth and ensure longevity, we’ll lay a protective weed membrane beneath the grass. This will ensure your lawn always looks pristine.
- Laying the grass
Once the groundwork is complete, we’ll carefully lay out your new artificial grass.
- Trimming for a perfect fit
Using a Stanley knife, we’ll trim any excess grass to achieve a clean and well-defined look.
- Joining the sections
To create a seamless appearance, we will join multiple grass sections together using specialist jointing tape and a weatherproof polyurethane adhesive until the entire lawn has been neatly joined.
- Spreading sand and brushing
To enhance the grass’ appearance, we’ll finish by applying kiln-dried silica sand and using a mechanical power brush to work it in. This will help the blades to stand upright, giving your lawn a lush, natural look.
