Rival Name Moves On To Wadkin Site

Woodwork machinery made by a famous name is again being repaired at the company's historic factory. However, it is a rival company that has moved on to the Wadkin site, in Green Lane Road, Leicester. Advanced Machinery Services has been set up by former Wadkin directors Steve Foster and Steve McGloin, who have secured a series of service contracts, half of which involve the repair of Wadkin machines. Wadkin Works has stood empty since the 107-year-old business relocated to Bardon, near Coalville, three years ago. Advanced's founders said they saw a great opportunity because the Green Lane Road address is displayed on tens of thousands of Wadkin machines. Mr Foster said: "There isn't a phone number on the machines, but many have 'Wadkin, in Green Lane Road' displayed on them. Fifty per cent of our business is Wadkin-related." He also said they were supplying Wadkin with parts. Mr Foster said the firm had won about two dozen service contracts, including major ones with Ratby window firm Benlowe and wood specialist Arnold Laver, of Sheffield.
